The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Teaser Arrives, Introducing Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voices

Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. It was showcased in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the upcoming animated film.

Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.

A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Classic Games

Similar to the games from the Wii period that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. On his epic voyage, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a breakout star from the original cinematic release.

However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Celebrity Voice Actors Returns and Expands

The feature will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.

A Big Year for Mario

The new Mario movie is scheduled to arrive near the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his friends.

The company has a set of three fresh titles publicly declared for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Launch Date Set

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
