Teenager Discovered Dead After Untrue Accusations of Taking Ashes
One teenage youth was discovered deceased only a few days following being falsely blamed of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, an inquest has heard.
Tragic Finding
The young boy's mother and father found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.
False Accusations Start
The inquest learned how his parent got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my apartment."
In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.
Police Inquiry
An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "it now appears that the property was not stolen in the first place".
Media reports about the supposed taken remains attracted online responses, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his mother said people "knew it was him".
The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she said.
Mental Wellbeing Effect
She explained that Kai had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions really mattered to him.
"This must have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".
Kai was detained at his residence, but nothing was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the moment of his passing.
Withdrawal and Worry
His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".
When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her son informed her he had gone into the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but denied taking anything.
Digital Harassment
In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being harassed digitally after the allegations.
The inquest learned that a young adult encouraged Kai to kill himself.
She had no worries on the evening before he died, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and joking".
She portrayed him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "family is totally devastated".
He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".
Educational Response
The inquest heard from school personnel at Connah's Quay High School.
On 8 November, she "heard some boys talking that Kai had been detained and that was the first I learned".
"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.
After the conversation, the staff member said she called Kai's parents' telephone and provided a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.
The court heard his parents said they did not got that communication.
Official Finding
Lead investigator informed the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.
Delivering a descriptive finding, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.
"Likely untruths were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the platform of online networks.
"On November 11th, he was questioned by the police and after his interview he was freed while inquiries proceeded."
The official determined: "There is no proof that the acts or failures of any organization caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is impossible to discern his intent."
